The initial concept of the Technological Center of Stones, Gems and Jewelry of Rio Grande do Sul (CT-Pedras) began in May 2005 with the signing of the agreement between the Union (through the Ministry of Science and Technology), the Municipal Government of Soledade and the University of Passo Fundo (UPF).

The implementation of the headquarters in Soledade - RS took place in 2006. Currently, CT-Pedras aims at professional qualification, scientific and technological research and the transfer of technology to the provision of services.
